The part number for the front coilovers is #RGMP3450-3 Says it’s for a 70-81 camaro I believe, I have pictures of it on my car, they work fine, I am also running the Hotchkis control arms. Also I have a question for the springs, I am going to order the rear springs from the same company you did, I am not running the same set up obviously, I am ordering the PMT Kit that comes with all the rear suspension IE control arms, panhard, sway ect so I wanted to know what springs as far as I don’t know my “added weight” and what spring ratio to get, I just want the 3” drop lol , any help on how to calculate all that?

  2. 66LTD, Sent you a few pic’s after mods to post. In addition to the Spohn upper/lower control arms & adjustable panhard bar I pulled the spool out of the rear end and installed a Detroit/Eaton Tru-trac with 3.83 gears. I just installed the Addco 1-1/8” front sway bar which also made a world of difference vs the 5/8” stock ‘coat hanger’ ($104 through Classic Performance – what a deal). I’m still waiting for the 7/8” rear sway bar to complement the front (to be frame mounted-not to the control arm). Hopefully I will be able to drop the rear air shocks to get the tires back inside the wheel wells without hitting (I’ll buy narrower tires next time after I burn these ones off). Thanks to the Spohn adjustable upper control bar I can raise & lower the rear air shocks and easily correct the pinion angle). I also added 3” stainless electric cutouts from QTP at the headers with 2-1/2” Flowmaster 40’s out the back (it sounds great both ways). For cosmetics (and functionality) I wired up remote electric door poppers and found a pair of 5-3/4” round 6K HID Ice Blue headlights on Ebay for cheap. Just to show off I installed a line-loc solenoid to disable the rear brakes with a switch (vs locking the fronts) to do controlled burnouts. By far the funnest car I have ever driven.

What rear shock are you running? You said air shock, and springs? I’m currently trying to find either rear coilovers (QA1 makes some for front, well part # was for GM but they fit) and rear I can’t fond any, obviously I’d need to make mounting for the coilovers since it appears the shock and spring are seperate….any ideas? (I am very new to these cars, sorry for sounding ignorant lol)

Back when I was driving the car in high school I had rear air shocks. Now I am running regular QA1 shocks that you can see on this page link

        https://66galaxieproject.com/rear-suspension/

What is the front QA1 coil-over part number you found?

As for running coil overs on the rear I am not exactly sure how you could do that. I had thought about it and did a little research but then decided against it. The stock shock mounts do not appear to be able to hold 100% of the weight. So I would assume you would have to make some type of custom brackets

66LTD did it right. That lowered look is awesome. I used the Moog CC801 rear coil springs and Monroe Max-Air adjustable shocks MA700 on my ’66 just because my rear tires were too wide (295 50 15’s) and would occasionally hit the fenders. If I was to do it again it would be like 66LTD’s.

Sorry for not posting pics but the adjustable Spohn rear end and new shocks & springs helps quite a bit but I still have the sway problem where the rear tires hit the quarters. I just ordered a 7/8″ rear sway bar kit Addco-938 and an oversized 1-1/8″ front sway bar Addco-816 (5/8″ is std). 66 Galaxie’s did not come with a rear sway (anti-roll) bar but the later Torino, T-Bird, Ranchero, and Crown Vic’s will fit. See Jay Leno’s Galaxie for other alternatives (Hotchkins…). If you have a 28 spline 9″ rear end you cannot cut it down (shorten/narrow it) because it is tapered.

Awesome setup. I am setting up my rear suspension very similar to what you are doing. ’66 Galaxie with the Spohn adjustable pan hard bar and just ordered the Spohn rear upper & lower contol arms. I am fighting the problem of my rear tires hitting the rear quarter openings. I am running 295 50 15’s on Cragar SST rims and have just installed brand new Moog rear springs and air shocks to make clearance (including the adjustable panhard bar) but still have a leveling problem. I am running a spool in the rear end and I think the factory rubber bushings are just giving in (they are old but not in terrible shape). Reading your project has sparked new energy in mine. I’ll take some pictures as I complete the project only if it fixes my issues.

please explain how you mounted the new rear sway bar. I have the same (spohn) rear control arms on my 65 Galaxie, and now need the right sway bay solution.

I have not mounted the sway bar yet. The sway bar I have using the body and I do not have the body back on yet

  6. That frame was MINTY goodness! I have a 67 Vert and I just rebuilt all 4 torque boxes and some of the frame – rotted right out. I like the SPOHN stuff you used here. Will you use sway bars? I went with Addcco from PST – BIG bars, should make a BIG difference. You youngin’s better keep these cars after doing all that work – then you’ll never have to mourn the “one that got away”!

What are you doing for springs? If you don’t make mention of a particular part in each section should I assume it was left stock?

What you’re doing here is awesome. I’m excited to follow you. This is giving me motivation to begin a similar project on my ’65 vert. It has been in my family since new. Similar history to yours. I’m 27…

Hey Drew. Glad to see you are going to follow. As for the rear suspension nothing will be stock. I was going to go with air bags on all 4 corners. But after talking to a few people I’m going to more than likely get some springs from Eaton Detroit Springs and some good shocks from QA1. Do you have any pics of your car? Whats your plans on it? Im only 29 myself so not too much ahead of you.

yea, I was lucky to have a solid frame. Only rust was on very back body mounts. And that was minimal. I am using sway bars. I bought the rear bar from quickorgarage.com. It uses the body for mounting so it will be awhile before its installed. The Spohn stuff is awesome too. Built very well from what I can tell. And trust me, Im keeping this car. Its my baby…. it was my first
